The SX/4 Project

Wow, what a fun project this will be! Resurrecting an '82 Eagle SX/4 Sport. Equipped with many options, this baby has a 258, 5 speed stick, rear window defrost, rear wiper (rare on Spirit and SX/4 models), A/C and more!
EXCELLENT sheet metal, no rust. Good glass. Door panels clean and unblemished and back seats very nice!
Alas, the poor thing has been in the California sun a bit too long. If it's plastic or rubber, seems it's broken, cracked or totally gone.
Will need new seats, apparently former owner weighed like 400 pounds and wore the seat out! New carpet, new seats, visors and a headliner repair and she'll be pretty good. Ha, been sitting for years so needs a good vacuuming, too.

My goal for the finished look.

We'll start with photos as it started out:

See images below for how the front looks now.
Paint job courtesy Sol (use your sunscreen!)
Full gauges.
Good dash. Put in my spare stereo and heater controls, and it will be like new.
Rare option
A heavy driver and perhaps a rodent or two. Sitting in the sun didn't help it.
Back seats are excellent!
Both door panels EXCELLENT, missing only the speaker grills. I've got those. Minor detail, the vinyl is intact.
The fate of ALL AMC headliners, the material comes off the backer when the foam disintegrates.
AAAARGGGHH! Ripped! Look to the left - it wasn't just prior to shipping.

A few shots after it got home and I could finally look at it.... (it arrived late Sunday night after dark so really couldn't see much of it until next day.)

ZERO rust! Perfect frame rails
VERY nice
Originals
Already have brand new springs.
All that's left of the clutch master cylinder "standpipe"
Ouch, someone has worked on this clutch pedal before.
It's been welded on and the pin for the clutch master cylinder rod is pretty well worn.
A small-gauge wire, sort of coiled and stuffed next to brake booster, what's it for? (I think it's for the console oil gauge.
With new headlight adjusters and replacement turn signals. Compare to the first photo above.
These three show the HEI conversion I did. The distributor is out of a Chevy pickup with a 250 I6. Still need to get better plug wires (like from a Ford 300) so they will look and fit better. But this these are the basics. Wow, does it run nice now. I also bypassed the carb electronic controls so it's more like "standard". No "seeking" or RPM changes, etc. It starts great, and idles very smoothly.
